About the destination: Würzburg is a city that is in Franconia in northern Bavaria, Germany. Founded in the 10th century, Würzburg served as the home of powerful prince-bishops for many centuries. It is renowned for the Residence, regarded as one of the finest palaces in Europe and a high point of Baroque art (also UNESCO cultural world heritage). Würzburg is also home to one of the oldest churches in Germany, built in the 8th century on top of a former pagan shrine. Strolling these ancient, narrow streets is like travelling back in time. Don't be in a hurry. Stop and look around. Browse in the shops, have a meal in one of the restaurants, and enjoy the atmosphere. In the old town we find the Kornmarkt, the city's primary market square lined with shops and cafes. The Alte Brücke or Karl-Theodor-Brücke connects the old town with the suburb of Neuenheim on the opposite shore of the Neckar. Romantic and picturesque, this pearl of the Neckar, far from being a museum-city, is now a lively university town with an intense, vibrant cultural life.
